Why do you need SEO?
You spend a lot of time and money building the perfect website for your brand but if you don’t have an ongoing SEO plan in place for adding content to the site once it’s live, it’s likely that you’ll struggle with rankings on the major search engines. Gone are the days when you could bulk your site out with hundreds of keywords and hope that the search engines picked it all up. Google is forever changing its algorithms (yep we’re getting a bit technical…) and it is becoming more intelligent by the day which means your website needs to keep up!
An important aspect of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is making sure your website is easy for both search engines and customers to understand. Your site needs to have good, relevant content that your users will be interested in seeing whilst being structured in the correct way that the search engines can trawl through the content. Without this your site may be invisible to the search engines.
Let’s take Google as an example, think of it like an online book. If you were reading a book and wanted to locate specific content, you would look at the index at the back of the book, find the relevant content then go to the specified page. Google reads through your website and creates its own index. If someone searches for a term that has been talked about a few times across your site Google picks up on this and will rank your site higher in their results, the higher up you are, the more hits you’re likely to get!
An article from Forbes sums it up nicely ‘If you want to succeed in SEO, you need Google’s trust. This has been true for years now, but too many people overlook this guiding principle.’
There’s lots to consider with SEO, it’s not all techy stuff, yes there’s a side of it where you need to be intelligent and have the site set up correctly in the back end (we can help with that 😉) but it is just as important to consider the content on the front end of the site that your customers will see.
Online content comes in many forms, from blog posts and inspiration pages to specific landing pages that can be set up to link to from social media. It’s all part of the bigger picture for getting people to your site.
Once you get people onto your site you want them to stay there for as long as possible. Hook them in and tailor the content across the site to take them on a journey so that they hopefully end up finding a product they’d like to buy.
Another important aspect of SEO is having a mobile friendly website. Mobile searches are now outpacing desktop searches and Google is furiously focused on mobile. If this is something that you don’t have in place it’s something you need to consider and quickly, don’t get left behind.
Google also includes links to review sites and Social Media content, which makes it even more important to make sure you have good content across all platforms that represents your brand in the right light.
One last thing key thing to remember – growing a site’s position takes time, it doesn’t happen overnight but if you stick with it you’re sure to be pleased with the results over time.
